Parks & green spaces of Kharkiv

A short guide to the city’s most interesting public green areas

Kharkiv is one of the greenest big cities in Ukraine. We have gathered several notable parks and natural areas to help you pick a place for a walk. Sarzhyn Yar is on this list — and it is the subject of this site’s main guide.

Natural monument

Sarzhyn Yar

A deep ravine with a mineral spring, wooden boardwalks and an open-air pool — one of Kharkiv’s best-known green places and the main topic of this site.

Scientific garden

Kharkiv Botanical Garden

One of Ukraine’s oldest botanical gardens (founded in 1804), located next to Sarzhyn Yar, with plant collections from many climate zones.

Forest zone

Forest Park (Lisopark)

The city’s largest forest-park area in its north — dozens of kilometres of trails for walking, running and cycling.

Culture park

Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure

A widely known Kharkiv park with broad avenues, amusement rides and rest areas for families.

Historic park

Shevchenko City Garden

An old park in the very centre of the city beside Karazin University — one of Kharkiv’s oldest green places.

Start at Sarzhyn Yar

Sarzhyn Yar is easy to reach, open free of charge all year and has wooden boardwalks — a good starting point for exploring Kharkiv’s parks.
